Have You Heard: Eric Lau

Every now and then I get a CD that completely blows me away. Eric Lau’s New Territories took me by suprise with its soulful sounds and deep baselines. Lau provides the beats while a series of UK songstresses bless his tracks with honey vocals.

The U.K. bred, Hong Kong native is the “producer you’ve heard, not not heard of.” Lau has already lent his production skills to the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Tanya Morgan, Hill St. Soul, Dudley Perkins, Georgia Anne Muldrow and many others. His ethereal boom-bap sound deeply moved me, especially on this track.

If anyone can give me insight as to who this vocalist is, it would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, New Territories won’t be out officially until March 2008, but it gives you something to look forward to other than the Gnarls Barkley album. To stay tuned to all things Eric Lau, check out his Myspace page and add him as a buddy.

Psst…if you check out my IMEEM page…there’s a surprise for those feeling his tracks. ;)
